Michael Treloar
I was born in Castlemaine in 1973. Growing up I was educated at Winters Flat Primary School and Castlemaine Technical College. As a young teenager I was bitten by the “Acting Bug” and aspired to have a career as a Professional Actor.
Upon successfully completing my VCE in 1991 I was accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts School of Drama. Graduating from VCA with Bachelor of Dramatic Art: Acting in 1995 my first professional engagement as an actor was for the 1996 Castlemaine State Festival with my self directed one man show Visions of POE, which I remounted the following year for a critically successful three week season at Theatre Works in St Kilda.
As a professional actor I have worked with the Melbourne Theatre Company as well as independent theatre companies such as THE OLD VAN and Anvil Productions. A great passion of mine has been recording Talking Books for Vision Australia and appearing on Vision Australia Radios THE FICTION ROOM, reading short stories.
As an unemployed actor I have worked in a multitude of jobs ranging from Front of House at St Kilda’s famous ASTOR THEATRE and Melbourne’s PRINCESS THEATRE, to Hospitality, Swimming Pool Life Guard, Cleaning, Horticulture and VCE Exam Supervisor, among other diverse jobs…”Jack of All Trades…”
Perhaps one of the most challenging and rewarding roles I have assumed was as Full Time CARER for my elderly Father, David. I looked after him at home for six years until he finally needed to be placed in AGED CARE…an experience and journey that taught me much and I am so grateful for.
My interests include Theatre and Cinema, with a great interest and passion for the history of both, attending art Galleries, Museums and Exhibitions, reading, swimming and going for long walks in the Bush around Maldon where I have been living since 2018. Climbing Mount Tarrengower and exploring its many tracks as well as frequent visits to The Rock of Ages is a form of “Walking Meditaion” for me. Being out in Nature I find extremely therapeutic…Great for the SOUL.
I also enjoy performing in local Community Theatre, having worked with CTC, Three’s A Crowd, Mount Players and most recently, Kyneton’s Cat House Players.
From 2010 until 2014 I was an Ambassador for beyondblue: The National Depression Initiative, speaking publicly and sharing my experience of living with Bipolar Disorder. Inspired and encouraged by others who have openly shared their experience of living with mental illness I wish to help and support, with compassion and empathy, others living with mental illness.
I hold a current NDIS worker screening check, First Aid certificate, Working with Children check and I have full comprehensive car insurance.
