Laura Smolak

Hello, my name is Laura and I am currently 19 years old. I was born in Castlemaine and grew up around different areas of the Mount Alexander Shire, currently residing in Huntly, Bendigo.
I am currently enrolled in my second year of the Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Midwifery at La Trobe University’s Bendigo Campus. Subsequent to the completion of my first year of study I have an equivalent qualification to a Certificate 3 in Individual Support. In addition to this I also hold my Victorian Certificate of Education (2023), NDIS worker screening check, Working with Children Check, First-Aid, CPR and Comprehensive Car Insurance.
In my last year of Secondary School Education I held a significant role as a College Captain at Castlemaine Secondary College, and was awarded the John James Award for Leadership. I am currently endowed with the La Trobe Bendigo Holsworth Scholarship through which I am held to a high standard of achievement in my tertiary studies.
Throughout my first year of University I have completed Clinical Placements in both the Nursing and Midwifery fields, via Bendigo and Castlemaine Health. My experience, always under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife, related to Residential Aged Care and Antenatal and Assessment Clinics. As my education evolves I am rostered to complete more of such placements in different areas of health care all over Victoria. Another sector of my Midwifery degree includes providing individual support to women throughout their pregnancy, labour and postnatal journeys.
For the past four years I have held a job at one of Castlemaine’s local Indian restaurants, throughout High School and into University, where I worked my way up from dishwasher to head waitress and front of house. I am a caring and empathetic young adult with a great initiative to help others. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my partner, family and friends. My hobbies vary from swimming and netball, to knitting, cooking and needlework with a movie playing in the background.
As Adam’s eldest daughter I also hold a passion for people and helping them to chase their goals and find joy in everyday activities. I am extremely passionate about person-centred care, and in the understanding that every individual has their own story and pathway in life, regardless of disability/mental health.
I am excited to be involved in Dad’s vision that is Entity Eco Therapy, and to further my work in Person-Centred Care whilst completing my degrees.
