Hi, my name is Merlin

I am 46 years old and I was born in Melbourne, before moving to Maldon with the family in 1982. I grew up in the area, playing local footy, swimming, exploring, riding around in the bush and playing music with my friends. In the late 80’s my parents sold their candle business and with my brother and I, we took off on a trip around Australia for a couple of years. We were taught via correspondence school, the sights and surrounds we absorbed as we travelled and the characters we met along the way. It was an amazing adventure for the family to experience together and this further opened my eyes at a young age to the diverse terrain and nature around us, as well as many of the benefits.

From my early twenties to my late thirties I lived in Melbourne, studying sound and acoustics at RMIT, playing and writing music with friends in bands, working in sound and lighting/music industry and various other jobs. During this time I was given the opportunity to work and hang out with a cool little band featuring musicians with intellectual disabilities, recording and producing an album for the group, with a CD launch to follow. It was that project while experiencing mental health and life challenges myself, that planted a seed. I felt that when the time was right I would likely come back to work in this field or something similar, hoping to help others.

I love being involved with ENTITY Eco Therapy. I enjoy spending time with and assisting participants with their goals and interests, while having a good time and growing together. I am fairly easy going as well as flexible to others needs. Working and interacting 1:1 is where my strengths are most resourceful and natural. Though having said that, I am also a team player at heart.

My recreation and interests involve, swimming laps at the pool and going to the beach. Hiking up Mount Tarrengower and around the bush. Playing/writing music and soundscapes (guitar and various instruments). Going to the football to watch the Bombers with my brother and nephew. Kicking the footy and playing for the mighty Rockatoos. Cooking/Baking and eating with family, especially Indian food. Gardening and growing my own veggies.  The odd camping and fishing trip with old mates, when we find the time. Watching movies and reading. I have also travelled to India, Nepal, Thailand and Laos, with plans to head back and explore Vietnam and Cambodia etc down the track.
